Rap legend Lawrence Parker better known by his stage name “KRS-One” once said, ”If hip hop has the ability to corrupt young minds, it also has the ability to uplift them!” Two years ago in December, rapper “XXXTentacion” or Jahseh Onfroy released a song titled “Look at me.” This song had gained him a lot of publicity making him known to mainstream media. In September of 2017 he finally released a music video for his song. With the publicity of “Look at me” he was able to shed light on racial hatred in another song called Riot. Throughout Onfroy’s song riot he lyrically tackles issues involving race like hypocrisy and police brutality, through his video he gives reenactments involving events that has occurred and speaks out against supremacist.

Through Onfroy’s lyrics he speaks out on hypocrisy involving race because he wants his audience to know nobody is perfect. Onfroy’s ideology is seen in the first few lines of his verse when he says “Niggas ask for peace in a riot and bring violence (Line 5)” Onfroy is showing his ideology by saying blacks show signs of hypocrisy when they ask for peace and instead use violence as their backbone. “The New Jim Crow” written by Michelle Alexander stated that “The racial imagery associated with the riots gave fuel to the argument that civil rights for blacks led to rampant crime.” Meaning riots based on race gave reason for crimes, a form of hypocrisy. Another example would be the 2015 riots in Ferguson that resulted in looting vandalism and arson. On August 9, 2014 Michael Brown, an African American male was shot by a white police officer, who later was not indicted for the murder. Causing protest that started in front of a Ferguson police station and later into the town.
