The painting shows the boy from the Warsaw Ghetto being crucified. A crucifixion is a slow and painful way to be executed. Therefore, the young boy being crucified is used to represent all the children that were murdered in a cruel way during the holocaust. To illustrate a message, Samuel Bak uses two different colors to pop out in his painting. Neutral colors are mostly used in the painting except on the Star of David. There is a red string and blue thread holding the star together. Representing the holocaust is the red string, which stands for malice. . Blue is often associated with faith and equilibrium, which is what most Jews hoped for. Despite the dark place they were in, the Jews never lost touch with their faith to hope that one day they would be at peace, this is implied by the usage of these two colors. To ensure the viewer captures the meaning of the painting, Bak uses a geometrical shape. In the middle of the painting, a triangle is formed, beginning at the top of the cross and leading down to the boy from the Warsaw Ghetto. Below the boy is the Star of David being held by a red string and blue thread. Using this geometrical shape allows observers to focus their attention to the middle, thus taking into depth the statement that is being portrayed.
