My Favorite Character In Shakespeare's Hamlet

Improved Essays
The play of Hamlet that I watched was performed BLC Theatre. My favorite character within the context of the play had to be Horatio. Horatio being a close friend of Hamlet had a sense of loyalty to the young prince. Every time he was on stage he seemed to have a certain presence that could not be overstated. The young man who played him I believe did an outstanding job of letting the audience truly understand who Horatio really was. My least favorite character had to be Claudius. The reason for this is nothing more than his motives throughout the play. He is a man who wants nothing more than power and will truly stop at nothing to get it. I very much enjoyed the man who played the part as well, he was not afraid to take the character …show more content…
During the play I believe the rising action takes place during the very first scene when the late king Hamlet’s ghost interacts with the guards. It made me as a spectator feel as if there was more here than just meets the eye, and also exited me for the future events of the play. The falling action of the play had to be when Hamlet killed Polonius by mistake. The atmosphere seemed to change drastically from there on out. The world of the play seemed to have an old world feel to it. The setting of the play was meant to take place in Denmark and the time period was set in the middle ages around the 15th century. Realism is defined as “An attempt to make art and literature resemble life.” There is much realism in this play that took place on stage. Throughout this play we see Hamlet fighting his emotions time and again, he needs to make a choice in his heart about what he believes is true and what he believes is …show more content…
The most important supporting character in this play is Claudius, although he is the antagonist who Hamlet seeks vengeance upon his character was not as developed as I would have liked to see. I don’t believe that any of the characters in the play of Hamlet fall into any kind of stereotype. The characters are all unique in their own ways no matter the size of the part, I believe all the actors and actresses did a great justice to their characters. There is no doubt in my mind that I enjoyed this play by BLC. It made me want to see it in person as well. Although I did criticize some of the cast, overall I thought they all did an outstanding job. I think plays like this are a great reminder to all spectators just how tough Theatre really is. However, it also makes you appreciate the time and efforts that the actors put into the process in order to make it the best show

I really enjoyed the play, for many reason the actors were very vocal they did an amazing job at keeping the audience intrigued, they successfully played there characters well to believe they were who they were playing which is incredibly important in a play for some plays, the actors are not a big intriguing and sound as if they a reading dull and right off a piece of…

Personally, I felt like there was a mixed bag of talent in this cast with some standing out more than others. For example, Matthew Cavander, who played Roy, was notably talented in his ability to quickly establish his character and connect to the audience through his convincing portrayal. There was not a point in the play where his performance brought me back to reality and made me feel as though I was watching a person play a character, rather than just watching the character act out his life. An actor like this is so important to a director and playwright trying to convey a specific message. On the other hand, Donavan St. Andre more monotone and expressionless portrayal of Lewis drew me out of the play, failing to make me feel as connected to him or his story.…

In my opinion, the play exceeded my expectations. I did not expect the actors to perform in a way that made me believe his or her conflict. The setting was well thought out and complimented the dialogue in a way that made me pay more attention to the conflict. The painting also added to the setting by focusing on the art aspect of the play. I also enjoyed the humor of the play.…

I disagree with G. Wilson Knight’s claim that Claudius was not a plausible villain. First, I disagree with Knight’s claim that: “Like Stavrogin, he [Hamlet] is feared by those around him. They are always trying in vain to find out what is wrong with him. They cannot understand him.” The character, Horatio, serves as an effective counter to Knight’s claim.…

If Hamlet was written today, Hamlet would be an early 2000 emo who dressed in all black and thought he was above other people, because he is always asking “deep questions” and bragging about how he detests everyone around him. Although if this was the case, King Hamlet’s death would be investigated by professionals and this play would have turned out like an episode of NCIS. So thankfully Hamlet was not written in 2016, but during 17th Century England, where Shakespeare’s Hamlet, deals with Hamlets conflict that is spawned from the contention between his Renaissance sensibilities and feudal value system. Shakespeare highlights this by dramatizing the tension between Hamlet’s vacillation and his resolution by the end of the play. It is my understanding…

One particular point that I love about Hamlet, the character, is the perfect blend of decisiveness and enough control to not make rash decisions. Throughout the play, Hamlet is thrown into several predicaments in which he has to make difficult decisions. Hamlet encounters a ghost that claims to be his deceased father and the ghost said “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder” (1.5.31). This ghost is saying to commit an act of treason and kill the sitting king, Claudius, because revenge needs to be taken. This is a lot to comprehend for a boy that recently lost his father.…

Although King Claudius is often viewed as the villain in Hamlet because of his slaying of Hamlet’s father and struggle to hold onto power after gaining control of the throne, by the end of the play many actions point to Hamlet being the true malefactor of the story. It first starts off with Hamlet’s drive to revenge his father’s death concocting a plan to make everyone believe he is going mad so he can stay under the radar of having the King find out that he knows what he did. Eight people including himself die at the hand of crazy Hamlet and his best friend Horatio is the only one left alive and the tell the story. Many scholars research Shakespeare’s plays to learn about him, his lifestyle, and the customs of that era. Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare in about 1599, is read and studied by nearly every student. Even though countless scholars have researched it, the play ultimately leaves them puzzled. Each person that has studied Hamlet has come up with a unique opinion and conclusion of the play. Although Graham Bradshaw and William Empson both have different views on the way Hamlet was written and the famous “Hamlet Problem”, William Empson has a more valid argument on the new play.…
