I saw “How to use a Knife” on June 16 at the Horizon Theatre in Atlanta, Ga. This play was written by Will Snider and directed by Carolyn Cook. The play takes place in the kitchen of a restaurant. The restaurant is owned by a guy named Michael, played by Brad Brinkley, who was a line cook that started his own restaurant. The main character George, played by Brian Kurlander, is a man who was once working at big name restaurants, but personal circumstances led him to a job at Michael’s restaurant. Michael was a line cook for George many years ago. There were four other workers in the restaurant. There is a server named Jack, played by Jeremiah Parker Hobbs that wanted to be more than just a server. He was constantly hating his job. Carlos and Miguel, played by Tony Guerrero and Orlando Carbajal Rebollar, were the two cooks in the kitchen. They are Guatemalan and Miguel spoke little English. George’s main goal throughout this play was to learn to control his anger. That is why he become friends with Steve. He has a hard time with learning to control his anger because he still feels guilt about the death of his daughter. George makes some choices throughout the play that may not seem nice. For instance yelling at servers. However the biggest choice George makes is to not tell immigration that Steve is working there. He doesn’t tell because he doesn’t believe her that Steve could be a killer. When he confronts him and learns the truth, it is to let to tell immigration and Steve is gone forever. Although Steve lied to George, Steve did teach George how to remain calm. The last scene of the play shows the audience just how George has changed. If he was his normal self, we would have become infuriated when he comes back to clean up the mess he made in the kitchen, but instead he stops closes his eyes and
