Kelly describes how baxter is a multi function robot and is cable of doing many task. Baxter is affordable and safe to use. For example, Kelly states, “ Baxter is an early example of a new class of industrial robots created to work alongside humans” (Kelly 301). In other words, he is saying that Baxter is an industrial robot but not like the big and dangerous ones. Baxter is a safe robot and has the technology to work alongside humans without hurting anyone. In addition, Baxter is equipped with a screen which displays eyes that indicate where he was his attention to, he as well uses technology to feel sideswipes and is thoughtful. This issue reinforces Kevin Kelly’s argument that Baxter and other technology are used to facilitate our daily life. If we examine Mike Rose’s essay alone, we can see that he focuses on the issue of how uncle Joe became innovative by working together with machines. The machines took over some jobs but it created new jobs for example people with technical skills to maintain, replace, update and fix these systems and hardware. For example, he states, “ Joe initiated the redesign of the nozzle on a paint sprayer, thereby eliminating costly and unhealthy over-spray” ( Rose 277). While he makes a great point that he redesign meaning he used his technical skills to help the company reduce the cost of paint. Uncle Joe as I mentioned earlier has become innovative and has learned to work alongside machines. However, with Kevin Kelly’s help, we can see something new in Mike Rose’s observations. With Kevin Kelly, we can see the impact robots make to our society and are not here to take over our jobs. Furthermore, as discussed in the previous paragraph, Kevin Kelly shows us that technology is here to help us be more innovative, so we can now see how it made Joe Meraglio be more innovative and helped him grow in the company because of the relationship and experience he had with the
