Two summers ago a man broke into my home. I was the only person awake, and the only person the intruder confronted. Many terrifying events took place that night that still haunt me today, but one thing I will never forget is the kind hearted officers that quickly arrived on the scene. Those brave police men were the only people that were able to calm me down. They all did everything they could to comfort me and investigate the situation. In the essay, “Why Colin Kaepernick and I Decided to Take a Knee,” Eric Reid attempts to justify the NFL’s disrespectful decision to kneel during the national anthem based off of police brutality but there are many logical fallacies in his argument and very little evidence to support his absurd claims. The idea that kneeling during the national anthem will stop police men from shooting unarmed black people is an oversimplification. The flag represents hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, tears and the struggle our ancestors had to suffer through in order to have all the freedoms we enjoy every single day. It’s a reminder to the military families who have lost loved ones that we still remember and recognize their sacrifice. The only reason the United States even has the freedom to protest is because of the brave …show more content…
Many people and groups, including the National Football League make a rushed conclusion without considering all of the variables. Eric Reid expects every police officer to be racist and to enforce laws with brutality. He believes this because of the carnage that had happened in his hometown. Reid’s opinion is built upon what he has seen and heard from the News and media. What Reid hasn't seen is the countless cases where the law was not enforced with brutality and racism. One cop using cruelty and discrimination is not enough evidence to conclude that every cop is equal. Police should not be defined as faulty due to one controversial

This article, written by Marc Thiessen, really appeals to the pathos of the American People. He brings in historical references to the country from whom we won independence, stating that the players respected their song but not the national anthem of the United States. He mentions that the day of this protest was on National Gold Star Mother’s Day, this was in an effort to again appeal to pathos. Thiessen uses a quote from a mother of a deceased Veterans to add to his pathos. While I do not agree with this point of view I understand where he is coming from.…

The playing of the National Anthem is over a century long tradition, that takes place prior to sporting events. In the United States, it is commonly expected of members in the audience to stand and remove their hats. Colin Kaepernick, second string quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, decided to break the tradition of standing during the singing of the national anthem during their first three preseason games, going unnoticed by media until the third. I will begin by explaining how Kaepernick is going against a national tradition that intends to support the United States. Then, I will show how Kaepernick’s protest is not changing the Black Lives Matter movement, and how it is causing more conflicts than it is resolving.…

Last NFL season Colin Kaepernick decided to protest racial injustice by taking a knee during the national anthem before his games. This local movement quickly sparked discussion within conservative media who quickly pounced on the story, “ignoring Kaepernick’s stated intentions and instead accused him of being unpatriotic and disrespectful of the American flag” (citation). However, this wasn’t what brought Kaepernick to news headlines. The controversy exploded when President Donald Trump responded to the situation by saying, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners ... say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He’s fired!’…

I believe that the main issue of weather it is right for NFL players to kneel during the National Anthem is majorly a racist issue. The proof behind this reasoning is that Collin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers quarterback stated that he was , "not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." Personally I disagree with his opinion. Holding your hand over your heart is a tradition that has been carried on for many years that honors what our country stands for, which is not oppressing colors of race. Although there are many opinions on that statement, America has many different races, cultures, and ethnicity throughout our nation.…

Police brutality and racism seem to be consistently connected to one another. This has become a serious issue in which circumstances have ended violently or even fatally when involving police officers and African American citizens. In 2014, the United States Census Bureau reported that African American people make up only 13.2% of our population. Anyone can become a victim of police brutality, regardless of their race; but statistics show that African American people are being killed by police at more than twice the rate of Caucasian and Hispanic people. It is also considerably more likely for the African American victims in these situations to have been unarmed at their time of death.…

Being a police officer comes with great responsibilities. They are expected to maintain law and order, protect the lives of citizens, reduce fear of crime and most importantly prevent crime. But in the past few years, it seems as if they’re the ones putting fellow citizens in fear. Police brutality isn’t a topic you frequently hear about, but the times we do it’s nothing short of a serious problem. I’m not sure if it’s to do with race or just about the law enforcement agencies believing they can abuse the power that is a privilege to them.…

Recently, there have been several incidents involving police brutality, where police have been too violent with people. Police brutality has been around for a long time and for the same reasons, one being racism. The victims are usually, specific races such as African American and Hispanic. The reason behind why they receive such major punishment doesn’t make sense due to their lack of guiltiness. Police have used excessive force against them for unjustified reasons; the situation has resulted so inimical, to the point where these poor victims have actually been killed.…
