This quote from Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, is saying how our life is wasted away by detail and people spend way too much time stressing out about things that don’t matter all that much. If one has 10 million priorities and other scheduled events on their agenda, then they going to be so overwhelmed in life and won’t be able to handle it and succeed. If one limits their priorities, they will have less responsibility and will end up having more time for themselves and free time to just relax, one will be less stressed, and overall happier in life. People have too many responsibilities in their life, it’s one thing after another, and one does not leave any time in their day or even week to just relax …show more content…
It also makes sense and most everyone can relate to it. There is always a sense of pressure today to always be doing something. If people aren’t doing anything, they are often seen as lazy. Society sees leisure time as “lazy time”. Leisure time should not be pinned to laziness. Relaxing is a major piece in living a healthy lifestyle. If society would be able to get rid of the thought “leisure = lazy”, it would be easier for people to have more leisure time without feeling guilty. People today also give themselves too many things to do because they are bored. Soon, more and more things pile on top of each other, create a snowball effect and one gets in over their head and can’t handle all their responsibilities which leads to spending their life stressing. Children are also still given too much responsibility that they don’t need to have at such a young age. Feilder also raises a few interesting questions including “is the child getting enough sleep?” and “does the child have enough time to do his or her homework?”. These two simple questions should not even be necessary to ask. Because children have too many events on their schedule, parents and others are worrying about their time management. Children should not be struggling to find enough time to do their homework and get a healthy amount of sleep. Overall, today’s society is a busy one and sometimes people just need to take a step back, look at the big picture and ask “does this really matter?” Living with limited priorities will result in a happier, healthier, more relaxed life. Thoreau knew it all
