On purpose is a very unique, graphic novel that explores the real life experiences and emotions of the author, Victor J. Stretcher. The book beings with Stretcher introducing his personal life, more specifically his family life. Very early, readers discover the loss of his younger daughter Julia, and the struggles that they dealt with for her entire life due to her illness. Stretcher is very honest about his emotions after losing his daughter, and it is fair to say that he almost shuts himself down. After getting some advice from a friend, Stretcher decides to start teaching a class “On Purpose: Lessons in life and health.” During the class sessions Stretcher teaches his students about the value of life and transcendental living.
