Velocardiofacial syndrome is a disorder caused by a defect in chromosome 22. It causes dysfunctions with the face including cleft palate. This disorder is caused by a defect in the heart which will cause problems with fighting infections, lows calcium levels and defects within the kidneys. Velocardiofacial syndrome is not curable but there are many treatments that can improve the disorder. If a baby is born with this disorder, the doctors will complete heart surgeries to try to correct some of the defects. Those who suffer from low calcium due to this disorder might take vitamin D to help them gain calcium.
