When we hear the word “tunnel” we think about an underground passage. But you can also think about freedom. When you are trying to escape from something you can use tunnels. Whatever you are trying to escape from. If it is a prison or some problems tunnels are a good escape. The tunnels is used to give people freedom and get away from their problems. In the text “Tunnels” the main character is using tunnels to escape from reality.

The main character is not ready to be an adult. “We took our lunch breaks back on the surface, where my mother would bring us sandwiches and chips and lemonade” (p.2). His mother still take care of him even though he is an adult. The mother is feeding them like they were children. So, he is not ready to be an adult.

The narrator is for the most reliable. The things he goes through and experience it also happens for us. The reader is living through the narrator. The things the narrator experience he does not change it. We see the experience as the happened. We also hear about him and his friends. He likes his friend so he does not change the way they are. That means that we feel that they are good people. ”None of us came up with the idea on our own that morning. It just sort of hit us all simultaneously” (p.2). In this quote, we hear about the way the think alike. So, the narrator sees his friend like him. The think about the same thing and have knowledge about the same things. Therefore, the narrator is reliable for the most part. The narrator also takes drugs so perhaps he does not tell us all the things that happens. He is not ready to be an adult so in that way, he is also unreliable.
“When we finally got him awake, he told us that he’d dug too far in his dream, had felt the earth give easily under his shovel and that fire had come out of the cracks, spilling around his feet” (p.3). In this quote, we hear about Hunter’s dream. He tells the narrator what would happen if the dig to deep. That shows that Hunter is naive, because they cannot dig that deep with their tools. So, the author describes the characters
