The purpose of Chapter 1 is to give the reader an idea of the importance of tradition in the south. It introduces the reader with the Southern Gothic genre. It also gives the reader an early sign of prejudice; preparing the reader for the later chapters. The story begins where it ends. The first two paragraphs in Chapter 1 starts with talking about Jem’s broken arm and how things changed “when Dill first gave us the idea of making Boo Radley come out” (3). “A child educated only through school is an uneducated child,” as said by George Santayana, an Italian philosopher and novelist. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters clearly show how important it is to understand morals and perspectives. Through many conflicts and misunderstandings, the adults in the novel educate the children about the basis of accepting and understanding one another and how important it is. The most significant theme shown through the narrative, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is the education of children in morals and perspectives is important, this theme is shown through three events, being taught morals, demonstrating them, and how learning them has affected them. The one word I would pick to describe chapter 26 is "remarkable." I think this a great word to describe this chapter because one of Scout's classmates Cecil Jacobs has a current events report on Adolf Hitler. This report talks about Adolf Hitler hunting down the Jews, taking them to prison and taking away all their property. In my opinion, I think it was a great idea for Cecil Jacobs to write about Hitler because Scout and her classmates can be aware that he was a terrible person and a terrible dictator. They can also get to learn more about what Adolf Hitler was standing for and that it was wrong and very cruel.…

In conclusion, I believe that the fire in chapter 9 made the kids start to see Boo not as the freak or creep that he was portrayed as but as someone they could sympathize. When Boo wrapped Scout in the blanket it showed that he was capable of doing something kind and made them rethink all of the rumors surrounding the Radley boy. Throughout the chapter they start to realize that Boo is just a boy who was severely deprived of the outside world…

For this week, the chapters we were supposed to read were 26-31, signaling the end to this classic novel. Chapter 26 starts off when Jem and Scout return to school. In third grade, Scout and her classmates are assigned by her teacher, Ms. Gates, to bring a current event to school. The topic of Adolf Hitler is brought up one day when Scout's class is presenting their events. Ms. Gates shows a strong hatred to Hitler when talking about what he was doing, which I agree with. After school, Scout asks Atticus if it's ok to hate Hitler, to which he replies that it's not right to hate anybody in general.…

To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book showing how people can grow together. We have Scout and Jem growing up together in an innocent childhood growing into adulthood. We have Tom Robinson, an African American man who, is going to court with Atticus Finch (scouts father) and is trying to defend Tom against the harming white community. Tom Robinson was accused of rape of a white female Mayella. The raping of a white woman by a black man is similar to The Scottsboro Trial in 1933, where 9 black men were falsely accused of raping two white women.…

To Kill a Mockingbird - “Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you'll go after birds. Shoot all the Bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." This passage was a major part of the story because of the symbolism that has now been revealed. The Mockingbird is a harmless and pure hearted animal, which in this story symbolizes Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. I chose this passage because of the strong meaning behind it.…

The central idea in chapter 15 in the text To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is that knowledge, courage, and age all play a role in how people view a man's humanity—regardless of color and the author uses theme as the literary element to portray the central idea. A theme is a message, or life truth, which the author is trying to share with the reader, by way of a piece of literature. In this novel, there are a number of themes. Among them are cowardice vs courage, ignorance vs knowledge, and age vs wisdom which are key in how the plot unfolds specifically in chapter 15, in how different people show signs of courage, intelligence, or utter ignorance.…
