Thomas Gainsborough Art Analysis

In Thomas Gainsborough art work, Portrait of the Honorable Anne (Baston) Fane, the audience observes a sophisticated, beautiful, wealthy noblewoman named Anne Fane. As the observer looks from top to bottom, he or she will see Fane’s blue and black hat. The expression on Anne’s face shows sophistication and grace, and her cheeks are flushed with pink blush that matches her pink lipstick and has smooth pale skin. Continuing down, the viewer will notice the beautiful, brunette, curly hair Mrs. Fane has. Furthermore, she is dressed in a smooth black dress with a light red and pink band around her waist. On each side of her arms, there are huge fluffy sleeves with ruffles on each sleeve. Around the top of her dress is majestic white lace, which lead to the middle of her breast where the observer notices a sharp, gold and red, diamond broach and in her left hand is one fluffy white feather.
When first looking at the painting, the audience will notice the huge decorative frame the artist has used to display his work. It is carefully crafted and has many unique designs. Compared to the paintings around this masterpiece, the frame and size of the picture shows the importance of the lady in the photo. The moment a person observes the painting they can see the softness and curls of the beautiful brown hair that Mrs. Fane has. Furthermore, her skin is smooth and soft looking compared to everything else in the painting. The dress Anne Fane wears has many different textures with the lace, ribbons, and ruffles on the sleeves. Furthermore, the artist paints smooth round pearls around the neck and dress, which also has a realistic texture. All in all, the textures bring out the beauty and perfection of Mrs. Fane and emphases on the schema the artist was trying to
