Looking in between the lines These pieces we read relate to the writing process by getting students to have a better understanding and connecting with the passage. Adler writes that he wants us to read between the lines and look closely at the text we are reading. I used to underline and mark in my book a lot in highschool. I had a lot of success in my English classes when I marked up my books. It is important to think and write like Scudder, because he pays close attention to the details, looks at things from different angles, and just double checking his work. Adler always read between the lines and read actively. “Most of us tend to look at things without really seeing what is there”(Scudder,1). So the process would help …show more content…
Starting in my freshman year of highschool I used Adler’s and Scudder’s technique without even knowing what I was doing. All I knew it was helping me understand the material and it helped me in the long run because I passed the class. Now I understand what I need to do to write and think about a topic. I fully understand that I need to reread text to comprehend that text and underline good points in the book. Also, I should circle words I do not know to look them up later to get a greater understanding of the material. Now that I have experienced a college prep high school I think writing is easy and hard at the same time ,because I can write and explain myself a lot more. When I was young writing was difficult to me because I went through a bad education system until I got to high school My high school experience really shaped the way I write because my teachers really help me succeed in a lot of ways. A teacher of mine who graded us on our markings in the book we read. I had a teacher in the learning center who would always help me and just stay on my back about the little things in my …show more content…
I will also need practice so I can get better and better each time and my last paper can be my best. I plan to go to the writing center and get help with my grammar ,because I still need to work on it. As a thinker I plan to again learn and listen to the professor, and then apply it to my work. What I want to accomplish in this semester is just to become the best writer I can be and alway do my best. I would like to earn an A in this class and continue to work on my writing skills. I would also like to gain something I can use in life in this class. I want to accomplish all this for my family. They helped me through everything. I owe all of this to them, so I am going to do this for them. Also I want to use Scudder and adler 's techniques to get better at all my skills. I need to use adler 's reading in between the lines because I still miss a lot of the smaller meaning or themes in the books I read. I also need to active read more, just to help me understand the words and understand the reading alittle

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…

In the past semester, I have grown as a writer holistically. Before I began my first-year English composition course, I wrote the DSP (Directed Self-Placement) test. The prompt was whether or not college is worth the investment for the current generation. When I read the instructions that the essay wouldn’t be graded, I knew I could write anything just for the sake of finishing the assignment. When I reread my DSP essay I realized the lack of effort I put into the writing.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. So far, I can say that the strategies I learned in chapter have helped become a better note-taker. Now before I take notes I consider my goals and what I want to get out of my notes. I actively listen to what the professor has to say so that I can understand “is being said, making sense of it, and thinking about it in a way that permits it to be recalled accurately” (Feldman 58-59). For a student currently enrolled in college composition, this technique has helped me gather information more effectively for my essays. My essays are now more precise and provide more…

I am very thankful for taking this course as I feel I have vastly improved in multiple areas of my communication. I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
