Analysis Of The Walking On The Water From The Gospel Of Matthew

Peter, just as many of the people in the world today, struggled with doubting his own faith. A prime example of this is the story of The Walking on the Water from the gospel of Matthew. In this passage Jesus sends the disciples out across the sea while He goes to pray up on the mountain. As the disciples sailed off, the boat got caught in a storm. In the middle of the night Jesus began to approach the disciples, and at first they did not believe that it was really Him. They said fearfully that it was not really Christ, but that it was a ghost. Peter then tells Jesus to command him to come to Him on the water if it really is Him. Peter begins to walk, but once he feels the strength of the storm he is scared and begins to sink. He calls to Jesus to save him, and immediately Christ catches him. He then says to Peter, “Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?” …show more content…
Before, I thought the story was merely just Jesus walked on water and that it was just another miracle, like the Wedding Feast at Cana. However, after reading this passage I have a new understanding of what the story really is about. It is not just another miracle, it tells us that even in hard times Jesus will be there to catch us and help us. This passage has definitely helped me to strengthen my faith, even if it was just the slightest bit, it is another step forward to becoming closer to

Peter is an excellent example of faithful and selfless discipleship. Simon Peter is seen as a close friend and companion of Jesus. Throughout Mark's Gospel, Peter witnessed many significant events Jesus' life such as the raising of Jairus’ daughter (Mk 5:37) the transfiguration (Mk 9:2) Jesus’ sermon on the future (Mk 13:3) and Jesus’ agony in Gethsemani (Mk 14:33-37). Even now, Catholics admire Peter for his solid faith and humanity.…

Simon Peter, the impulsive yet sensible disciple of God. Outspoken and ardent, one of Jesus’ closest friends, and above all one of the first “pillar’s” of the church. Though he had his flaws, because of God’s amazing abilities, Simon Peter ended up molding into a leader and someone the Christians could depend on. God set Peter’s life in place; through this Peter became more than just generic fisherman, but he became a foundation of the ever growing church. Peter was born just Simon, son of Jonah, in approximately 1 B.C, in the Galilean town of Bethsaida.…

The disciples’ fear is based on seeing someone walking on water because they think it is a ghost. Peter doubts Jesus and challenges him by stating that if it really is Him, then He should make Peter walk on water, too. At the Lord’s command, Peter is able to walk on water, but becomes frightened by the wind and starts to sink. Jesus immediately reaches his hand out, catching him, and reproves Peter’s faith in Jesus, claiming “Truly you are the Son of God.” I feel that the most interesting aspects of the passage revolve around the role of Peter as he relates to both Jesus and the rest of the disciples.…

Francis Adirubasamy claimed that his story would make one believe in God. After reading his novel, I believe his claim to be true. “The Life of Pi” is a story that provides evidence that God is here to take care of us. This is because of the extraordinary tale of survival that he told. I believe that the survival of Pi seems to be extremely unlikely and there does not seem to be a logical way to explain his survival, except that God was with him, which is why Adirubasamy made his claim.…

The Gospel of Peter is obviously not found in the New Testament or in any other part of the Bible for that matter. This is for both obvious reasons and likely some reasons we do not know. When deciding what Gospels to include in the New Testament the religion leaders of the time chose not to include Peter’s Gospel. Scholars recently discovered this after finding Peter’s Gospel someplace in Egypt. Scholars found that Peter reserved a large portion of his story to describe story of Jesus’s death and resurrection.…

Peter then immediately changes the focus of his speech from the disciples and starts to proclaim Jesus. He attempts to make his listeners understand what in the past they may have not; he reminds them of how through his signs and wonders Jesus was attested to by God. Then he went on to confront them on the fact that they had been blind to this and put him to death by crucifying him, but that death could not keep him down because God raised him from the dead (v22-24). The apostle then again quotes from Scripture and reminds his audience what David had prophesied that the holy one would not be abandoned to the realm of the dead and therefore would experience no decay (v27-31). Since David had not risen from the dead himself it…

These two accounts of Jesus walking on water in Mark and Matthew both include the general scenario of Jesus performing this miracle in front of the disciples. In the accounts written by Mark and Matthew, there are many similarities and differences, but the most significant distinction between the two texts is the addition of the dialogue between Peter and Jesus in Matthew’s account. In Matthew 14:28-31, we see the dialect between Peter and Jesus and Peter says, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Sure, enough it was Jesus and Peter then proceeds to follow Jesus and he too walks on water. This is very significant in the fact that if you put all your trust in Jesus, you can do anything.…
