Practice does not make perfect but it makes progress. When challenges arise, you need to actively think about what mindset you’re approaching it with. Kids need to be taught this, and kids need to be seeing their teachers respond to challenges in this way as well. If kids are surrounded by other students and teachers who have a growth mindset, their growth mindset will grow as well. When people around you are thinking a certain way, you tend to drift that way as well whether it is a good mindset or not. If you are around people with fixed mindsets it becomes much more difficult to change your mindset, especially if it becomes a patterned way of thinking for you. Parents and early education professionals should be aware of how their kids see themselves and how they approach challenges and failure. Kids should not be afraid of failing but should accept failure, knowing that trying and failing is better than not trying at all. Success does not occur without failure.
