An archetypal quest story is a story which involves a quest or search in which the characters or character find out more about him or herself by the ending. In The Cure, a film directed by Peter Horton, the quest is a search for love and friendship. To make up a quest, there must be a calling, departure, experience, initiation, and return. The calling is what the character is in search for or what causes the character to take action. Frascari, just like Gregotti, believes detail, architectural expression or meaning, and construction cannot be separated. As the title of the essay The Tell-the-Tale Detail suggests, Friscari believes the detail is part of a narrative of the project. A detail's ability to provide a narrative for how the building was constructed and articulate certain aspects of the design are closely related. For example, the aspect of design emphasized could be process of construction which is revealed through a detail that shows the structure. As described by Frampton, this would be structural-technical ontological element that is shaped so as to emphasize its static role (Frampton 2002, 94).…

Greek tragedies are marked by the likes of Oedipus and orteas ; individuals whose cataclysmic ends are caused by their own errors of judgment and misgivings. In his acclaimed text “All My Sons”, Arthur Miller pays homage to the genre of Greek tragedies by exploring the tragedy of the common man, whose ideals, morality and actions are puppeteered by the societal norms of the era. In the drama, this figure is embodied by Joe Keller a man who is neither inherently good or nefarious; whose struggle for material and domestic security ultimately results in his tragic demise. Keller is first introduced as an affluent businessman; an archetype of the rags to riches; a genial neighbor who is beloved by children and adults alike or in layman's terms…

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm was popularly known as the “Grimms Brothers”, were characterized as one of the most dramatic writers in the 19th century. They were categorized by their short, simple sentences, colloquial language, and their well-organized approach to craft writings. Their writing was entitled Little Snow White, it was released in 1937 and it was about Snow White, a princess who falls into a deep, death-like rest after taking a bite from a poisoned apple. My impression about this narrative was an innocent little girl who had her step-mother hating her because of her beauty and kind-heart. The Little Snow-White by the Grimms Brothers is a fairy tale that reveals the goodness and the beauty of a little princess who is loved by all, however,…

Ian Marshall is a scholar in ecological issues and American essence literature. Marshall has written a handful of books and numerous articles. I've choose two of his literary criticism articles because we both share a passion and love for nature. The first article that sparked my interest was, Literal and Metaphoric Harmony with Nature: Ecofeminism and Harriet Prescott Spofford's “Circumstance” and the second article was “Tales of the Wonderful Hunt”. Immediately after reading both works, I thought they were intriguing, between the ecofeminism, human ecology, nature, and religious role.…

The book Little Men by Louisa May Alcott is the third book in the Little Women series. Little Men takes place around the 1860’s and 1870’s in Plumfield, where it can be assumed is in Massachusetts. As with many books, there will be a few differences between the book and actual time period with the way people act, what they wear, and how they speak. Back in the 1860’s and 1870’s the clothing they wore was very formal. Men would wear long trench coats with high waisted pants, vests underneath their trench coats, as well as bow ties and tophats.…

Narrative is verbal or nonverbal interpretation used in storytelling to construct the “story of our lives”. For example, one narrative I have constructed is transferring schools and how that has affected my college experience. I think narratives are important because it tells the story of our values, our beliefs and truly showcases our identity. Without narratives, we would not be able to fully understand and empathize with another person because we wouldn’t know their story or their experiences. Mindless Communication is defined as communicating without conscious purposeful intent.…
