Given all the tracks in coloring book, Chance the Rapper revealed to media that “Same Drugs” was the hardest to write and release on the mixtape. From that we , the listeners, should take the time to fathom the lyrical piece for it’s deeper meaning. When the track first dropped fans thought it was about Chance reminiscing about doing drugs with a friend in his pastime. However Chance laid on the line that this poem definitely wasn’t about actual drugs as the fans first thought. However through further analyzation of the lyrics it can be said that the song is really about chance’s drifting relationship with a friend and him pondering on his nostalgic childhood adventures. Whilst learning the price of having to grow up.

In “Same Drugs” Chance expands about not doing the “same drugs” for the main context of the song, however “drugs” for the main context of the song, however “drugs”in the song doesn’t connote to actual narcotics. Chance voiced to an reddit question and answer session that “drugs” represented “stuff” within the song. Using our new knowledge of drugs, in the lyrics he said “ ‘Cause she don’t do the same drugs no more”(line 4). He used these sound to try to trigger the same happy memories he experience with the drifting friend. The line that can clarify on that point was,”It’s so natural like Juicy fruit work like a magic trick...”(outro).This commercial jingle from juicy fruit & was used to bring back the said happy memories. Overlapped with Chance saying his final word emotionally.
