The wording of the first born means that this idea of what a civilization ought to be is the first in the history of our planet. I believe the use of unicorn can represent two ideas in this presentation of California. Either the unicorn could be used to show that this presentation of what the world believes California to be is nonexistent, or that it’s a figment of our imagination of what we hope California to be. What I believe he means by hard core soft porn is that California is where ideas that challenge public perception of what it means to be human and what is accepted in everyday life are questioned as to whether they should be accepted in the rest of western civilization. He then addresses Kurt Cobain, an idolized figure of the west coast. Inevitably Cobain much like other famous musicians and actors couldn’t handle all the fame of becoming a star, and either died of a drug overdose or committed suicide to escape the mandatory appearance of Californication. The following line he writes how the death of Kurt Cobain was announced throughout the world. I had to do some research, but I found out that Alderaan was one of the utopian cities destroyed in Star Wars, which means that he believes that Californication will ultimately destroy itself.

Control of population everybody's been there and

This writing is to show how everyone has been affected by Californication, regardless if they had even taken a vacation to California.
Destruction leads to a very rough road

The final section of the song he writes how the destruction Californication has brought has resulted in a challenging road ahead, but that there is still hope. He then uses a metaphor to show how Californication is like an earthquake, but that even though it may be powerful, in the grand scheme of things is just the ripple of a girl’s guitar
