Analysis Of The Song 'Better Than This' By Hunter Hayes

Improved Essays
The song “Better Than This” is performed by my favorite country artist, Hunter Hayes. The song is about how Hunter knew he was born to do something great, and he takes action to pursue his dream in music. He talks about the complications he went through, and he knows it will all turn out in the end. This song taught me that chasing your dream is not a clear and easy path; you have to be able to stand up to the complications

“Better Than This” is mostly made up of approximate rhymes, like born and for. Exact rhymes also make up most of the song as in line and mine. Alliteration is included as the m sound in mine, merely, mama’s, and mind. The m sound produces a feeling of excitement to me. An example of assonance is between the words freedom

The reaction that this song is trying to express is that from an early age it is important that we teach and show our children that doing the right thing is an imperative to leading a good life. Also, that when stray from that vision we end up suffering and losing everything we hold important to us as human beings. The social problems referenced in this song generally revolve around how young minorities in large city environments tend to join gangs and get influenced by their peers to turning to crime to find wealth. Eventually, these children get addicted to the life of crime and turn to robbery, drugs, and murder in order to survive.…

Is Kanye West brewing another feud with Taylor Swift? As if his nasty verse about her in his new song "Famous" is not enough, the rapper took another shot at Swift and her win for her "Bad Blood" video, saying that A$AP Rocky deserved the Grammy and not her. This is like a deja vu from VMAs 2009 where West infamously interrupted Swift in the middle of her acceptance speech because he thinks that Beyonce deserved the award more. The 38-year-old recording artist and fashion designer is proving to everyone that he is still not done with his Twitter rants.…

As well as protesting the Vietnam War, Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival preached antiestablishment and blue-collar pride. "The song speaks more to the unfairness of class than war itself," Fogerty said. "It's the old saying about rich men making war and poor men having to fight them” (Songfacts). The song has a consistent idea that some Americans aren’t cut out for the war. “The horrors of war were well documented and broadcast-ed on television.…

In the poem of Beowulf, the writer uses many literary devices to convey Grendel's mother emotions, voluntary, and involuntary actions by using these literary devices such as: Alliteration, and Assonance. These two literary devices can improve the readers ability to understand the piece of literature they are going to read about in the poem of Beowulf. The writer of Beowulf uses alliteration. "Alliteration is the repetition of the same sound or letter at the beginning of each or most of the words in a sentence. The easiest way to use alliteration would be to repeat the starting letter of the words."…

I personally liked the second song as is not as corny lyrically as the first song, also the music and shouting style of the second song are more appealing to hear. I believe both songs are very similar and as both were Motown hits, which followed a certain pattern, as they had a sort of copycat motto, where they would use the same song writers and musicians and tend to commercialize the music they produce to appeal a bigger audience. I am very familiar with these two songs as I have heard them before on the radio and movies they are practically similar, however the second one to me was much better lyrically and the lead vocals delivery is very passionate, a truly nostalgic Motown sound.…

For the opening moment of the play, I thought it would be appropriate to include a song that gives a sense of mystery and fear; to be rather eerie. In the beginning, it is late in the night, as Francisco, a patrolling guard, is waiting for the character Bernardo to relieve him from his watch duty. Francisco is nervous as he claims that he has seen a ghost wandering around that looks like the deceased king, Hamlet senior. Given this, I decided to employ the 2010 song “Monster” by the Chicago hip-hop artist Kanye West, as it has a rather creepy and dark feel to it. Focusing specifically on the beginning of the song, Kanye West states “oh just another lonely night, are you willing to sacrifice your life?”…

Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T.I.’s 2013 music video for their hit single “Blurred Lines” depicts three females in little clothing performing seemingly innocent acts that have sexual connotations while dancing around and engaging with the three well dressed men who seem to only be watching the women, which sets the tone that the women are only there to serve as eye candy for the men. The first thing the 503.3 million viewers of the “Blurred Lines” music video on Vevo saw was Thicke lying in bed with a topless model while his arm assumes a dominant position over her body almost completely blocking her from the view of the camera. While this position may be perceived as simply cuddling, in the realms of this music video that reflects…

There is a lot emphasis on the fact that even though they are in a free and equal country, equality is still not there.…

Usually, a poet will use words to construct images in the reader’s minds that help he/she portray the poem in a way that the poet may look at it. Furthermore, not only does Millay use imagery to connect the reader, but she also uses alliteration in some verses, as well. She states, “many a man is making” as an alliteration in her poem to address the individuals coming in touch with, or thinking about death (7). An alliteration makes a musical or tune in an element while reading a text, as well as making poetry more engaging and captivating. Millay’s use of poetic devices such as the ones listed above all, causes the reader to interact and engage with the message she is trying to employ.…

In J.Coles “She Knows” he uses a juvenile young man to demonstrate the life of a average suburban family and the struggles they go through. By looking at the the two scenes spoken about in this essay, we can see what exactly J.Cole means in his title “She Knows”, which most viewers don’t see; this is important because J.Cole changes the meaning of “She Knows” through the entire music video. The first important scene starts with the young man being dropped off by his mother and father on his way to school. This scene is significant because previously before the young man left the house he stole money from his parents and the young mans mother gazes at him in the car as if she knew what exactly he had done. The second important scene starts with…

Many artists these days tend to sample other authors work into their songs to add a greater purpose or meaning to their music. Although this technique is not used in a lot of genres and appears mostly in hip-hop music, forms of music sampling have been around since the late 1900’s. Artists like Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar are known for sampling other artist’s music or speeches and incorporating them into their songs to enhance the message or theme that is trying to be presented. Kendrick Lamar uses a sample in his song “Alright” to help illuminate what life is like as an African American and the struggles that they face due to their skin color.…
