The themes of inside versus outside, real versus simulation and disruption versus stability. All concepts you could argue are seen in many popular reality television shows. For example in the study discussed above Survivor wise widely talked about and analyzed. These themes and binaries are all main parts of the basis of that show. Disruption and stability are always played with in reality shows, as they are played with in The Truman Show. In reality shows things get disrupted to throw the contestants off their game and make them adapt, for example in Surivior in the first couple weeks there are separate tribes which learn to go exist and remain stable, until it becomes disrupted when both tribes have to form one unit. In The Truman Show the theme of disruption works as the main plot point of the film. Exemplifying how common themes in reality shows are then implemented into the films main plot line. This could be a tactic to ensure audiences who enjoy reality television shows, would also enjoy the disruption within The Truman Show. Its common knowledge that reality television isn 't made for its artistic merit, therefore we can deduct that reality shows make money which is why there are so many variations. In their own words “the truth that they are nothing but business is used as an ideology to legitimize the trash they intentionally produce”, this argument immediately draws parallels to reality television as its known as “trashy tv”. Therefore because the main premiss of The Truman Show is reality television, it’s clear that this film fits into Adorno and Horkheimer 's culture industry
