A Good Man Is Hard To Find

The story “A Good Man is Hard to Find:” by Flannery O 'Connor is about a dysfunctional family of four who decides to go on a family vacation. The family of four is accompanied by their opinionated and unwanted grandmother and her cat Pitty Sing. Throughout their drive a series of unfortunate events occur leading to the death of the family. “A Good Man is Hard to Find” leads readers to believe that the chain of circumstances within the family 's lives are due to the disconnected relationships that they have. Each family member plays and important role and contributes to the outcome of this story. The father Bailey, the man of the house, husband, and son carries a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He is disconnected at times from his surroundings and those around him. He has an angry disposition about himself and is not very family oriented. Not mindful of those in the vehicle, she causes many distractions for everyone. The Grandmothers manipulative ways resides throughout the entire story not only with her son Bailey but also with his June Star and John Wesley. The Grandmother uses her conniving techniques with the children to get her way. This results in the grandchildren annoying Bailey with their consistent whining and begging. This leads him to do something out of character and go off the path to see a home that the grandmother had remembered growing up. Although the grandmother realized they were on the wrong road, she doesn 't say anything because, she is not one who likes to be wrong. It is because of the grandmothers stubbornness and her ability to only care for herself that they end up running into the escaped convict known as the Misfit and his co-partners in crime, Bobby Lee and
