The sixth stage is intimacy vs. isolation in which development occurs in early adulthood between ages nineteen to thirty-nine (Evans, Forney, Guido, Patton, & Renn, 2010). During this stage of development young adults develop close relationships in the hopes of having a secure and committed relationship in the future. In this stage it is important to have a strong sense of personal identity. Those who do not develop committed relationship are more likely to suffer from emotional isolation, depression, and loneliness (Evans, Forney, Guido, Patton, & Renn, 2010).
