Perseverance is Key
As Thomas Carlyle says “Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak.” Both James Hurst, author of “The Scarlet Ibis,” and Edmund Ware, author of “An Underground Episode,” show that part of being human is having the perseverance to survive in spite of society’s limitations. Both Authors use similarities and differences in their writing style. The Scarlett Ibis is a about a boy named Doodle he was born with complications that threatened his life and made it hard for him to fit into society. In the Scarlet Ibis using the writing style of narration it was able to show the readers how everybody felt in a deeper way than a dialogue which helped develop the characters better. In the quote where the narrator said “When Doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn 't walk, so I set out to teach him.” using the narration writing style in that quote gave the reader a better understanding of the character. In the story An underground episode even though the author uses dialogue as a writing style it has different impact on the reader. Using dialogue makes the reader feel a different way makes the reader feel like they 're in the story with the characters. Its shows how much the characters care about each other and when Stender and Alaska were saying “If he didn’t make it all right,” said Stender. “Saving us tearing out those pipe.” Forget the pipe,” said Laska.” the reader could feel what Stender and Alaska felt without using narration. After talking about differences in writing style between the two author last will be how the authors are
