Perseverance is Key

As Thomas Carlyle says “Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak.” Both James Hurst, author of “The Scarlet Ibis,” and Edmund Ware, author of “An Underground Episode,” show that part of being human is having the perseverance to survive in spite of society’s limitations. Both Authors use similarities and differences in their writing style. The Scarlett Ibis is a about a boy named Doodle he was born with complications that threatened his life and made it hard for him to fit into society. In the story An Underground Episode is about a boy away from his family. He struggled between life and death but he persevered and made it to the other side to be greeted by his non biological family.
The first paragraph is going to be about how both of the authors use symbolism in the same way. In the scarlet Ibis Doodle one day see’s this bird in a tree and it was weird looking bird but with a beautiful color Doodle instantly fell in love with the “scarlet Ibis” but when the scarlet Ibis had passed away it symbolize something was going to happen to Doodle. After the Scarlet Ibis died Doodle brother scream “ Doodle!" I screamed above the pounding storm and threw my body to the earth above his. For a long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of rain.” in that quote it’s Doodle…
