Sam Smith is an amazing vocalist and can tell you what he feels with an emotion filled story. What these lyrics is a sad story and his efforts to try and get his love back and how he is broken without him. The video starts off with him at the altar to what i looks like him getting married. There is also people at this wedding with every seat full with friends and family. Everyone is dressed like how you would expect them to be at a wedding and they are all holding candles in pews. The camera pans around Sam Smith focusing on him then the song starts as the camera is looking straight at him. Then the camera slowly goes down the hall, while it passes all the people there is one male that sticks out with his tattoos and piercings that is in tears as the camera passes him. Keep in mind that the camera is not very far for the people but about an arm 's length except for the man that is about to come up with the cell phone. Towards the back of the church there is a man out of his seat with a cell phone next to his ear leaving to go outside the church and be respectful of the people around him. After the camera pans to the back of the church it goes back to the altar with Sam Smith and this time his partner holding hands. The mood and tone very much correspond with the video itself and also the lyrics very well. The feeling that I got while watching the music video was more of a neutral feeling and a bit sad towards the end. At the beginning of the video the mood is more of a like serious and also as the mood you would be in if you were at a funeral. With the combination of the lyrics, Sam Smith 's breathy voice and the setting being in a dark candle lit church it gave you a sense of like wanting to sorry for Sam Smith and what he has gone thru with his previous relationship. As for the way he sings it 's is more of a sad tone like I said very breathy but there is no question or confusion what is being said, it is very clearly said. Towards the beginning or the song he is singing with a little higher pase and then after the first verse he goes into a more of an emotion filled screaming you could say. For example when he says “ Can I lay by your side” it is filled with so much vocal strength and feeling that it will send chills down your spine and make you feel like you have to just come out and sing with him. What creates an even better experience is that while he is screaming the camera is pointing directly at his face showing how his feelings are being put in sound and increasing the intensity level even more. Right after this intense and emotional part in the song he goes
