Elizer focuses his priorities on staying alive so that his father is not alone and stays healthy. In a way, the roles of father and son are reversed. Consequently, they keep each other alive because if Elizer did not care about his father, he would have no reason to stay alive. In the book, the Rabbi’s on was tired of looking after the Rabbi and decides it would be better just to die. The son of the Rabbi allows himself to be shot, leaving his father alone to fend for himself. In that moment he was praying for the strength to keep taking care of his father will gain his strength back and recover from his illness. The last attribute that helped Elizer survive was his intelligence and his quick wit. He always had a plan to get him through the
