Espejo was born in 1892 which means he is part of the modern style/period of music. It is a short piece of music and was compiled for a virtuoso player. I admire pieces that are composed for virtuoso players because they are very difficult to play and push musicians to their limits. In other words, the audience witnesses tremendous skill from the artist. The instrument used in the piece is a violin from the strings section. It made lovely high pitch sounds and in terms of dynamics, was medium loud or mezzo forte. The piece had a sharp timbre which gave me a jolt up my spine occasionally. Due to it being a solo piece, it had a monophonic sound which was fantastic to listen to. This is because, I could focus solely on the violin. It was a great experience and equally pleasing to apply the concepts and reference the history we are learning about in class. With regards to time, the concert was much shorter than I thought it would be, an hour in length. I think this is a reasonable amount of time. In reflection, I feel that if it had continued on for three hours, I would have lost interest. With that being said, listening to the music live felt different than listening to it on youtube. Not necessarily better, but a nice social event you attend with your friends in order to appreciate high quality music. Overall, my experience was positive and I look forward to the next
