He looks out to the calm, idyllic ocean before him. This is all he can see stretching out for miles ahead until the ocean meets with the sky at the distant, luminous horizon. The sky is a blaze of colour, scattered with pink and orange clouds. It puzzles him how the ocean can possess such immense beauty, yet still be fraught with such danger. But as he sits on the edge of the cliff, his legs dangling precariously above the jagged shards of rock his life seems insignificant; it is as if the gentle swaying of the waves is lulling his emotions into a temporary ceasefire. A large, clumsy tear rolls down his cheek and he lets it. He is alone and could cry as much as he wants, until it becomes physically impossible to do so any more. He feels bad for leaving the funeral, but he knows that he had needed to leave. He remembers feeling that he would implode because of the sudden surge of anxiety that he had felt. But still he feels guilty, his father had been the only person he had left life and now he had abandoned him during his funeral. How selfish of him? Today was meant to be about his father and not about him.
