Dalton Mmichael High School Concert Review Essay

Decent Essays
Today I went and visited Dalton McMichael High School Choir on December fifth at six-thirty at night. The event was scheduled for an hour and multiple songs were performed. Students from McMichael were the performers and the performance was absolutely amazing. The choir made up of thirty or more men and women performed almost perfectly. I live in Mayodan, writing for the local newspaper and here is my review of the concert.
The first four pieces were sung by the Vocal Ensemble and this included twenty two men and women. Omnia souls was the first piece performed by the Dalton McMichael choir, a simple melody was played the choir assembled of mostly women gave an excellent performance as which the high vocals were performed beautifully. The

The second piece that was performed was a Christmas classic and this was A Merry Carol of the Bells written by Jay Rose and it was performed almost perfectly by the choir. The two different pitches used by the choir was beautiful and it made the listener pay attention to all vocals. Two main vocalists began the song which was very powerful and both had voices that had the audience in awe. Throughout the song, you heard the men slowly progress which was absolutely appealing to the ear as it brought in two different pitches. The third piece that was sung was Keep Your Lamps written by Andre Thomas. This piece was much more formal and both men and women sang in harmony with each other. This was the first where both had sang together and it brought together a sense of calming and warmth. The song was written beautifully …show more content…
The first piece named Skye Boat Song by Jay Althouse had a very slow and deep tone as the men slowly sang the words. The women then came in with full force and blew away the audience. At the end, vocals by Jordan Graham were amazing as he finished the final piece. The second piece performed was the First Noel/Pachelbel’s Canon by Pachelbel and Clawson and this piece was much slower than the rest of the songs as it felt relaxing and the voices of the singers blended together to create a beautiful harmony. Sitting on the right side I was able to hear the men singing better and that blended well because the men were singing much quieter than the women. This song at the end was praised by a man stating “that was beautiful” at the end. Transitioning to Shenandoah by Linda Spevack, the women sang softly as the melody rose. It felt as if the room was in full awe of the music. At the beginning, seven women stepped off the stands and sang a beautiful solo. After the solo everyone came together and when the chorus was sang, the entire choir sounded in perfect harmony. The beautiful piano in the background blended in with the choir so well that it sounded as if someone was playing a track off of an album. The next piece performed was Long Time Ago by Joseph Martin, and this piece was another soft and calm song. Just women in the beginning singing very soft and slow gave way to a

To my surprise, this unique song was not in the program provided to us but was still played. The song opened quietly again with Joy playing the saxophone. As the song progressed, the drumbeats and guitar players joined in, pausing after every phrase that Joy had sang. It became increasingly dramatic, yet holding the atmospheric mood at a relaxing level. In my opinion, the lyrics had helped established that.…

There were a few informational bits during the performance to help the audience understand the performers and their relationship with each other. The singer was actually a Bradley allum and had performed in the Hartmann Theater before. One of the songs was duet called “Hard Hearted Hannah” and the song was sang by Stephanie Aarons and one of the Trombonists. The Trombonist actually knew Aarons personally which gave the song a more intimate feel to it. There was also a guy who was playing the piano and played a song with Aarons.…

THE KNOWN PIECE The known piece is Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, I. This piece was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in the late Baroque era (1720-1721). This does not possess a catchy melody, but one that has a jagged contour and great complexity, skipping up and down the piano. The voices of the characters, likewise, are required to produce many different tones in order to give more complexity to this melody. I believe the intent of this piece was communicated very well, giving the readers a story of true love and how powerful it can be. Even though the audience knew the ending of this story, they were still able to feel through the performance how much the characters had loved each other…

Jazz Night Concert Report The concert that I chose to attend was Jazz Night which was held at the Arnette Scott Ward performing Arts Center on the Pecos campus. I decided to show up to this performance because I have always had an appreciation for the skill and talent it requires to play an instrument. I was pleased by the concert because I heard a wide spectrum of timbre, and I was especially thrilled because I got to hear the brassy sound given off by the trumpets. I used to be a trumpet player…

Upon attending the International Chamber Music Festival Concert, a certain ecstatic vibe could be felt as the performers walked on stage with their musical instruments. The virtuoso’s performed in pieces that contained trios, duets, and quintets; showing the concentration they required when listening to each other. When working on Chamber Music, much of the melody jumps around from instrument to instrument, show casing various solos and much of the instruments having to coincide with each other to carefully listen for the melody. The first performance, was from Mosaics, by Eric Ewazen, only introducing the first movement: I. Barcarolle. The performers Dr. Susan Berdahl (flute), Dr. Xiaohu Zhou (bassoon), and Dr. James Moyer (marimba), all played outstandingly and show cased exactly how Chamber Music is meant to be played.…

Moreover, since it was a solo performance, there was no communication among performers. Even though I could not see the performer because he was hide behind the organ, I could feel that I was putting a lot of energy in this piece to make it dramtic. Just by the way he would hit the peddles it resound in the Hall. The musical composition I liked the least was Prélude et fugue en mi mineur composed by Johann Sebastian Bach.…

At the concert that I attended, a small orchestra called the Watauga Community Band performed in the Rosen Concert Hall on campus. The concert hall was relatively small, and the lights were left on for the audience. This made the atmosphere feel more informal and welcoming. The band was introduced by a master of ceremonies, and then one of the clarinet players stood up and introduced the first piece. The clarinet player would provide background information before each piece.…
