Everyone has their own wall, they have built and it is not until someone special comes along and removes the wall will you see the real person inside. In the poem “Please Hear What I’m Not Saying” by Charles C. Finn the speaker states “You alone can break down the wall behind which I tremble” (78). When the speaker says “you” he is indicating that there is a specific person who can “break down” his wall. Someone who loves and care about him. When the poem talks about breaking down a wall it is also talking about making sure the wall does not get rebuilt. J.C. Carleson’s fictional novel The Tyrant’s Daughter shows readers when certain people come into your life they can change you forever. Laila’s life changes forever when “Emmy brings [her] into her circle of friends” (Carleson 19). When Laila was introduced to Emmy’s group of friends, that was the beginning of Laila’s transformation because the girls are the removers of her walls.
