Analysis Of The Poem Inside Out

I think that Ha’s family will soon be in trouble. In the poem Inside Out, in stanza 1, it says, “ This year he predicts our lives will twist inside out,” (Inside Out, stanza 1, pg. 4). This shows that there lives will be turned inside out, most likely with a turn to the worst. In the poem Inside Out, in stanza 3, it says, “But I heard on the playground this year's banh chung, eaten only during Tet, will be smeared in blood,” (Inside Out, stanza 3, pg. 4). This shows that the war and violence is coming closer to Ha’s home. In the poem Inside Out, stanza 2, it says, “Maybe soldiers will no longer patrol our neighborhood,” (Inside Out, stanza 2, pg. 4). This shows that the situation is dire in Ha’s neighborhood, if soldiers are patrolling her

In the book Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai, the main character, Ha, is a very dynamic person, meaning that she significantly changes throughout the story due to many challenges that she faces in the middle of the Vietnam War. There are many different reasons that Ha is a dynamic character. The first reason that shows how she changes is that her thoughts about her selfhood vicissitudes. “Mother says to be grateful, I’m trying” (Lai 126), this an example of how she tries to be more gratified about all of the good things that has happened to them and how she is trying to forget all the bad things that has happened to them so far.…

Ha has experienced war in her home and plus she loses a person close to her which makes her a perfect example of refugee experience. In Inside Out And Back Again, page 12, stanza 1-2, says, “Father left home on a navy mission...nine years ago when I was almost one. He was captured on route 1 by moped.” And the same thing almost happened to Emil from Children of War, he says, “the war affected my father much more because he was held for for seven months in a concentration camp, and he went a little the crazy.” This shows how Ha is an example of the refugee experience because she lost her dad in action.…

The first half of the novel’s title, “inside out,” reflects the universal refugee experience of fleeing home. This relates to Ha’s experience in various ways. For instance, at the beginning of the novel, when Ha was still back in Saigon, she writes in the poem, “Closed Too Soon”, that, “I’m mad/ and pinch the girl/ who shares my desk,/ Tram is half my size,/ so skinny and nervous” (Lai 38). This shows how Ha was a bully who was feared by others. This proves how before the war, she was a confident person because she was in control of her classmates.…

My favorite worship song would have to be “Out of Hiding” by Steffany Gretzinger. The first time I heard it, I was at The Oaks Freedom Weekend and the Lord was setting me free from several things that were holding me back that I didn’t even realize were present. He was breaking away identity issues that others placed on myself and He renamed me as worthy and chosen. This song is dear to my heart because it reminds me of that day and also the point of view of The Father singing over His children. So often, we want to distance ourselves from the Lord whenever we are struggling with sin to hide because we want to clean ourselves up before coming to Him.…

An example of her popular personality is, ‘’ … someone is always saving lunch seats for me… someone is always inviting us to a party…’’,(Lai, Pg. 229). How Ha coming back again relates to other refugees experiences coming back again because in the end a lot of refugees get to experience life like ‘’normal’’ again, also other children refugees become popular and make friends like Ha did, too. When I first read each of these poem I notice a very interesting difference between the two. While both of the poems are about relationships the major difference between the two are the specific type of relationship they each portray. In Your Hands by Gevorg Emin the relationship Gevorg portrays is a very loving and passionate one between the two people. While in The Clothespin by Rhonda Bower the feeling we get about the relationship is that the two people don’t really love each other and force each other to stay together. The way these two poems contrast each other is also indicative of how many real life relationship between people are.…

Up North, a poem written by Suzanne Kindler has a great meaning, and as I read her poem I enjoyed it for many reasons. Being up north is different to everyone, and for me, it's the quaint town that I decided to write my portfolio about. Reading this poem made me think and enjoy how true it really was to spending time up North. The poem states there’s no sign to say “You’ve arrived”, I especially like how that was incorporated into the poem. Up North is described as your special place that brings peace of mind.…

Life as a refugee is challenging, and it can change your life in a negative way, as it did to Ha. For example, in the book it says '' In the distance war bombs explode like thunder, slashes lighten they sky, gunfire falls like rain... Not that far away at all''.(Lai 48). These quotes show how war affects people in mental and emotional ways because as you see Ha hears bombs exploding. That is something really negative…

Hey Devin,I agree with the things you talk about in your reflection of the story. Now that you said how at first this could have been a poem, I understand what you are saying. I also liked how the author talked about the workplace. That there are people that have serious problems, but sometimes no one is there to help. I didn’t like how if a person is going through something, they should have people to talk to.…
