I suggest that the ring have become a load on Aunt Jenifer’s hand as a result of that it is not allowing her to function the way she’s supposed to. There is a task and a responsibility that comes with the brand of being a wedded person, when one takes the responsibility as a wedded person, it normally brings a change around your life and there is a total elevation which makes people who knew you before getting into that covenant they see you differently and It always comes with a respect. The ignorant may term it as a shift in life, but according to the institutor of marriage having that symbol singles you out of many and makes you unique, some people termed it as a load or a weight but in actual sense taking that responsibility always comes with a price. The speaker of the poem talks about terrified hands, which literally means afraid. At this point a speaker is coming up with an idea of the aftermath what will happen after the death of Aunt Jenifer but from my opinion, Aunt Jenifer will go to her grave with the ring.
Finally the entire poem describes aunt Jenifer as a slave in marriage that is she has been but in a situation where the marriage has gripped her that she has to pay attention and go by
