Analyzing Dylan Thomas Poem In Summer

Poem in October is a poem about Dylan Thomas “mid-life” reflection of life at the age of 30. It begins as he wakes up on his birthday to the sounds of the sea and the sail boats knocking against the wall as they dock. While the rest of the town is asleep he sets out into the hills. Passing the gate which separates the town from the hill experiencing multiple changes of weather he begins to remember his childhood days with his mother. Touched by the memories he stats,” That his tears burned my checks and his heart moved in mine.” It was as if he cried and felt the same emotions that he felt in his childhood. Though he would love to sit and spend his entire birthday staring back at the town but the weather has changed and he has to move on Still burning inside with the joy he felt, he hopes in the years to come he can still feel this same joy. …show more content…
I am going to be graduating from Stephen F. Austin on December 17, 2016. It may not be my “mid-life” but, I do believe that it is a great time to sit and reflect on my life thus far. The weekend that followed analyzing the poem in class I went home, back to where it all began. As I sat on the porch of aunt’s house, like Dylan my heart too became over filled with joy from reminiscing on my past 22 years of life. I shed a couple tears while thinking about all the fun times I had growing up on Charlie street. This street is the street I learned how to ride a bike on, ran up and down with all my cousin, rode our horses, celebrated many of holidays and birthdays. The one street where I had no cares in the world, taught so much about respect & life, and lived so much of my

kay, so now we know about timshel, but it's also Adam's last word before he dies (at least it wasn't something totally random like rosebud). He says it right after Lee gets him to give Cal his blessing, i.e. show that he loves him as a son and free him from the guilt of "killing" his brother. It's a moment where things are at a crossroads for Cal: he could go on hating himself for what he has done and thinking that his dad died hating his guts, or he can be free and go on to break the Cain-Abel curse that seems to follow the Trask family around. As Lee says to Adam, "Give him his chance"…

In the following story I will be drawing a parallel between the poem “Caged Bird” by Maya Angelou, and the upcoming Homecoming football game between Lane and Curie. In it I will be demonstrating why I believe that both lane and Curie are caged birds. My piece is titled “Escaping one's Cage”. Escaping One’s Cage. Before the game even began you could see the growing anxiety on the Lane Tech football team, they were about to go out representing their entire school, in front of an immense crowd in their own stadium.…

Growing up as a hispanic woman in America has always been more difficult than I thought it was going to be. There were many times where I felt excluded, judged or like I am not as good as other people. Throughout my life this has always affected my happiness because it was never as easy as I wanted it to be. With that being said, many people that are also a different race also struggle with this problem and this affects their wellbeing as well. I came to realize what a struggle being a person of color is to other people as well after carefully reading a short story by Junot Diaz called “Wildwood” and a poem by Claudia Rankine called “From Citizen Six” where both of the characters were treated unfairly, and ran into issues on a daily basis because…

Death, a subject we tent to restrain from in conversation. Wither for personal fear of leaving, or losing someone close to us. Poets Catherine Davis and Dylan Thomas both have different and unique views on the topic of death. One believes we should rage at the end while the other sees all losses being the same after a time. Personally I see death as returning to a place we cannot remember.…

The civil rights movement has been one of the largest, ongoing battles in America over equality of black citizens. Not everything had changed under the 1964 Civil Rights Act and there is still inequality occurring today. In 1960 there were still several problems such as the police force, the lack of education in black schools and the segregation in many public places. The police force was still racist and black citizens were not given the same amount of respect as the white citizens were given. Also, several the members of the police force were members of the Ku Klux Klan, which meant that towns and states were, ran with social inequality.…
