Three Gods Walk Into A Bar Play Summary

I attended the play “Three gods walk into a bar” at the Crowder College Theatre on Thursday, October 20th, 2016. I have not watched a play for at least 4 years and have to say it was one of the best plays I have ever been to in my life! The play has a great atmosphere where the emotion is constantly changing from comedy, to sadness, anger, anticipation, and then ending with acceptance for how things are and that you cannot necessarily change things. The humor was quite enjoyable in the play. I loved how well Erick Jackson played Jesus/Joshua who in my opinion did a very good job, so much that I was touched and at the end of my play went back to my dorm and started reading my bible once more. In the play “Three gods walk into a bar”, Zeus …show more content…
Shortly after an unknown man enters the bar who Dionysus seems to recognize but cannot quite remember. The unknown man talks about that he is on a journey that he knows what it will lead to but does not know the way. He also talks about why his father God does such things (making Zeus for a while think that the unknown man is one of his sons, but latter decides he isn’t), the unknown man then leaves the bar, leaving Zeus more frustrated. The next day Michael and an army come to Olympus to force vacate the gods. Zeus tries to get Hermes to stall them, while he chains himself to the bar. Michael enters and wonders why they are still here, Zeus tries to use his lighting but he no longer has his powers (none of the gods have their powers anymore). Hermes then enters in saying that he quits and is now working for Michael and his employer. He then precedes to tell Zeus that Hera and Hermes and a one night affair. Zeus then unchains himself chasing Dionysus, Hera then tell Zeus then tell her that it was her fault not Dionysus. He refuses to believe that since he says that she is supposed to be all the good things that he isn’t. Then it leads to a makeup between them and a passionate …show more content…
I think that the overall acting was really good. One thing that I noticed was that at the beginning of the play as Jose Avenado walks onto the stage and a piece of metal that falls off the door. Judging by the reaction of the actor I do not believe it was part of the play, which is why I love how Jose even thought something unexpected happened kept his cool and continue acting like nothing happened. I think that the three best actor’s in this play were Jesus/Joshua (Jose Avenado) , Hermes (Sarah Swayne) and Jesus/Joshua (Eric Jackson), the reason I say this is because it was very hard to pick out any parts that they messed up on, if they did at all. I think that they did an excellent job at acting because I was touched at their acting which brought drama, joy, laughter, and a sense of purpose to the play. The directing was also good because if they were not directed then the play would have been a mess, everyone knew what to do and when to do it. The makeup was okay, I really don’t pay attention to makeup unless it on a clown. The costumes were good for the most part. I think that all the characters costume were too modern they did not really go with the time period of the play, I think for most of the characters they should have worn traditional Greek tunics and sandals’ think that the music played when they were switching to a new scene like. My favorite example would have been when Hera seduces Dionysus and the lights turn off and

There was quite a bit more of foul language(7) than I expected, but it helped add more a more real effect to the conversation. I feel like a little of that type of language is acceptable, but it was used more excessively than what was actually needed. Another aspect that did not work well in my opinions was the fight and violence scenes(8). I did not think that the actions were exceptionally well acted out and they could have used more practice. Fighting scenes like that are hard to act out because they have to be so specific and rehearsed, but that part of the play just did not seem real to me.…

Furthermore, the stage setup was utilized well. With the stage in the middle, they had three sides of audience seats that surrounded the stage. I thought this set up made the play more interactive and able to focus on the main character more closely. The lighting for this play was used effectively as well.…

For my “field trip” assignment, I attended Arthur Miller’s The Crucible at the Shakespeare Taven in Atlanta. The Tavern is in the midst of the city, which seems to immerse itself in Atlanta’s culture. It is a clean, building with a main floor and a balcony, where I watched the play. They also had “old-timey” foods available for purchase.…

In my opinion, the play exceeded my expectations. I did not expect the actors to perform in a way that made me believe his or her conflict. The setting was well thought out and complimented the dialogue in a way that made me pay more attention to the conflict. The painting also added to the setting by focusing on the art aspect of the play. I also enjoyed the humor of the play.…

In putting together the piece that we performed before our friends and classmates, I believe that we did not consider the enormous task that lay before us. I think that we began the process with heedless optimism in our ability to create and successfully perform a show largely of our own creation; I know for my part I shared this optimism. However, looking back at the process as a whole I think that the problems in the final performance were mirrored throughout the development of production. One of the major issues throughout was widely unequal engagement and care.…
