In the beginning of the play Troy has a conversation with Bono. Troy is talking to Bono about how he wants a promotion. Troy wants to become a driver. Troy takes it to the union and is fighting for his right, now that shows a highlight of troy. Troy then gets the promotion, but doesn't have a license. All Troy wanted was to be in control. Now that he is in control he still wants more. “ Do Mr.Rand know you ain't got no driver’s license?” (Bono page:46) Troy wanted that job so bad but he doesn’t even have a driver's license, so Troy was fighting for his rights but when he got there he didn’t really think it all through. “ Naw… you go ahead and keep that ten dollars”(Troy page:46) This is Troy and Lyons having a conversation. Lyons is trying to pay Troy back because he had borrowed 10 dollars from Troy. Troy isn’t accepting the money. When he was giving Lyons the 10 dollars he put up a whole fight and gave it to him reluctantly complaining the whole time about him paying him back, but as soon as Lyons goes to pay him back troy won’t except it. Troy wanted to be paid back but then he realizes that Lyonsmneeds the money and now doesn’t want to take money from his son. It’s also Troy’s pride, taking money from his son hurt his pride.
