Earnest Miller Hemingway was born the second of six children in Oak Park, Illinois, on July 21, 1899. He was one of the most significant American authors of the Twentieth century. His novels and short fictions have left an indelible mark on the literary production of the United States and the world. Although most often remembered for his economical and understated fiction, he was also a noted journalist. In 1954, Ernest Hemingway was awarded the Novel Prize in Literature. Hemingway was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing in the northern Michigan woods. Hemingway has moved to a completely unknown country of Cuba as an old immigrant and has settled there for a decade (1940-1950).Country of very different culture and tradition for America has gradually accepted Hemingway as one of them (Cuban) through his writings. Hemingway felt an instant connection with the Cuban people, and was inspired by many of his experiences while he was in Cuba and on the waters surrounding the island nation. Hemingway’s love for adventure, nature and life in Cuba had nourished his mind in writing “Old man and the sea”. Challenges faced in his life and the isolation from the American society are perfectly show by Santiago in the story. Hemingway might not the greatest American writer of the 20th century but however more than five decades after his death, he remains the single most influential American author of the past 100 years.
