In Act 1 Scene 3 the nurse is portrayed in a very positive and light hearted manner particularly when she tells Juliet to 'seek happy nights to happy days' it could be argued that is very light hearted sexual reference was put in the play by Shakespeare to amuse the uneducated groundlings at the front and the majority of the audience would have found this funny as at the time the audience would be mainly male and probably drunk so they would have found the sexuality by the nurse very …show more content…
These two roles break down later on in the plate as with Romeo has been banished day nurse suggests Juliet married with the County which would be an immoral thing for Juliet to do as she cannot be married twice so the nurse has crossed a moral line so Juliet ASDA become more independent and make her own decisions which shows the neurse controls how Juliet has grown up which shows the nurses role in the play to be a character to measure of the characters by for example it would not be a parent to the audience how far apart Lady Capulet and Juliet are if they have not seen how close Juliet and the nurse are and Juliet development can be measured by her relationship with the nurse as at the start of the play Juliet is a child and has to be cared for by the nurse however by the end of the play Juliet has grown into an adult and have no longer need the nurses help as much.Shakespeare shows this role of the nurse by only calling her 'nurse' which suggests someone who encourages growth or development of another
