When autobiographies are too bizarre, readers tend to believe that the story is fiction. The novella Night is an autobiography about Elie Wiesel and his struggle through the world’s largest genocide, the Holocaust. However, some people do not believe that the novella is an autobiography, but rather a fictional story about a fictional character in the Holocaust setting. The novella, Night, by Elie Wiesel should be read as a nonfiction autobiography because of the shocking similarities between the novella and the German genocide, and because other survivors share the same story. This paper is not about just the history of the Holocaust in chronological order. It is about proving that Night is in fact a nonfictional autobiography through events and occurrences during the Holocaust. A brief summary about the Holocaust and how it correlates almost identically to the novella by Elie Wiesel has been given. Now, other survivors will share their stories and they will relate almost identically to the novella. In total, there are about 450,000 Holocaust survivors left in the world. However, the term “Holocaust survivor” means someone that survived through the events of the genocide, whether that means inside a concentration camp or hiding in the real world. Dr. Robert Krell was born in Hague, Netherlands in the year 1940. He survived the Holocaust by hiding with some of his former neighbors, the Munniks, while his parents hid elsewhere. In other similar cases, other victims of the Holocaust did not feel as if they wanted to hurt the Nazi officials. Most victims that were adults during the genocide said how they did not seek revenge on the Nazis. One victim, known as Dr. Y from Hungary, has been free from Nazi power for over fifty years, and he has never had any intentions on killing any German SS or ruining Germany as a whole. However, with the younger generation of Holocaust victims, there is a different story. Most of the survivors that were children during the Second World War were usually very hostile towards their prosecutors. One little mistress, Ms. S from Poland, said that if she had the chance, she would ruin all the Nazi officers’ families just like they did to hers. When she was twelve years old, her parents were both cremated and her older sister was shot in the chest. Ever since that day she was alone, scared, and revenge filled. In the present, many people are starting to believe the Holocaust was a lie and a scandal. Without any live proof, people don’t think that the Holocaust was even a thing.
