The movie Split is a thriller/psychological horror film that has shocked millions of people around the world, earning up to 40.2 million dollars in just the opening weekend (Nolfi, 2017). This movie is full of great detail and important points, some of which I will and will not touch base on. “Forks over Knives”, a documentary film directed by Lee Fulkerson released in 2011, examines the career of the physician Cardwell Esselstyn, and the nutritional biochemistry professor Collin Campbell, to suggest that degenerative diseases that affect most of the society could be controlled—or maybe reversed—by avoiding the presence of processed and animal-based foods. In this documentary, Fulkerson promotes a plant-based and a low-fat whole-food diet as a suggestion to combat the number of diseases related to bad eating habits. In addition, “Forks over Knives” supports an analysis made from the 20-year China-Cornell-Oxford Project, which led the findings of Professor Campbell. In his findings, he recommends that diseases such as diabetes, obesity,…

If I were to tell you to watch a film about men in prison, what would you think? most people would think it’s another ordinary Hollywood flick. The film “The Shawshank Redemption” based on the novella “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” succeeds in avoiding the familiar and it manages to redeem Hollywood in the eyes of people who feared it in a dark ocean full of predictability and clichés. With music, visuals, script and acting, the director of this film Frank Darabont has proved himself the master of the craft to create one of the most recognisable films. For those unaware, The Shawshank Redemption is about a man named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) who is wrongly convicted of murder and is sentenced to two consecutive life terms…

Not only that but also in paragraph four in the article Schectman said that every member of the family was responding to a loss (Schectman 291).…

The Breakfast Club is one of my favorite movies of all times; as I was a junior in high school when this film was released in 1985. Detention was a common punishment; however, holding the detention sessions on Saturdays was controversial. Many individuals were angered by having to give up their time on the weekends. Therefore, the internal rebellion included not only students; but, parents and school facility as well. By the time my sister entered high school in 1988, Woodhaven High, no longer held Saturday detention sessions.…

My purpose for the film review was to discuss the aspects of the film that stood out to me and the parts that I would assume people who watch horror would enjoy. The collaboration needed to make a film, much less a quality film, is enormous. Many people are needed to make a production work: screenwriters, cinematographers, composers, etc. The director is one of the most important elements and his or her interpretation of a screenplay can make or break a film. As stated in Persistence of Vision: An Introduction to Film Appreciation, “An auteur is a director that has garnered enough influence that they have total artistic control over the entire production (Miller 54).” Here we will be discussing one such director, M. Night Shyamalan and his low-budget film Split (2016).…

The article “Peaks and Valleys” by John Calhoun investigates what shaped the film style of Brokeback Mountain. Calhoun interviewed the director of photography Rodrigo Prieto, ASC, AMC, who offered a surprising amount of insight into how many of the films stylistic choices were made – many of them falling into the categories we discussed in class. It turns out, that even the director Ang Lee’s choice to recruit Prieto – and subsequently shape the style of the film – was partially driven by pragmatics. Lee told Calhoun that Brokeback Mountain “was a very low-budget film, but it’s not written like one…I needed someone who uses natural light smartly, whose sets out the shots without changing them and gives most of the time to the actors” (59-60).…
