The movie Moonlight followed a boy named Chiron, who was a poor little boy from Miami, throughout three main stages of his life his childhood, adolescence, and his early adulthood. Throughout his childhood and adolescence Chiron is often teased and called homophobic slurs by the other neighborhood kids, the movie is about Chiron learning how to cope with the different struggles in his life one being his sexuality, another being his relationship with his mother, falling in love, and heart break. These scene I have chosen to analyze for this first project takes place in act two of the film when Chiron is an adolescent, the scene is the fight that Chiron has with Kevin that is instigated by Chiron’s bully, Terrel, what makes this scene so important …show more content…
The fact that the camera switched to Chiron’s point of view before the hit it almost comes off as a betrayal to both the audience and Chiron. Up until this point Kevin was Chiron’s only real friend, of his own age, and the audience had gotten to see an intimate moment between the two just the scene prior to this one. The fight scene had a symbolic meaning to it, in that moment Chiron was not only about to participate in an actual physical fight, but we also get to see that he is fighting with himself on the inside, because the night before he was just beginning to come to terms with his sexuality and we get to see Chiron smiling for the first time, and now he was fighting Kevin. After, Kevin punches Chiron again he falls to the ground and is stomped on by Terrel and his other friends, but not Kevin. This fight changes both Kevin and Chiron, as a result of this fight, Chiron regresses and once again begins to question his sexuality. Kevin also changes, but these changes are not seen until the end of the movie. The day following the fight, we see Chiron walking to school with a fast pace while the camera follows Chiron from the back, and only music is playing, once again the rapid camera movement and loud music creates a sense of building tension, Chrion enters the school and walks throughout the halls visibly angry, as Chiron makes it to his class he picks up a wooden chair and breaks it over the back

First of all, the school life of Kenny and the kids were cut in the movie. In my opinion, the directors should’ve included this part since it is entertaining and let us learn more about the characters. For Kenny, this told that he is bullied, has lazy eyes, is smart, and the relationship between Byron. For Byron, it told us how Byron was treated differently, as a god. Second, in the movie, there were some additional scenes which told us about the segregation in 1963.…
