The two main characters are Gerda and Kai who are excellent friends. When Kai is struck with evil magic, it changes his outlook on life, making everything he sees ugly. When Kai is out in a village in Denmark, he meets the Snow Queen, who kisses him which causes him to forget all about Gerda. The Snow Queen then whicks Kai off to her palace, where she hides him away from the world. When Gerda goes to search for Kai, a kind reindeer named Bae tells her that the Snow Queen took him into her palace. In this version of the story, neither Hans nor Olaf are characters at all. Gerda has the role of the story's main protagonist, serving as the Anna in this folktale, and Kai is this story’s version of Kristoff. This dark magic is not in the form of ice powers however, it is in the form of a mirror. A mirror that had been created by a devil. This mirror had the power to change the way people saw themselves, taking away the beauty and leaving only the bad and the ugly aspects. When the mirror is shattered, the shards pierce the hearts and eyes of many people. This takes away their ability to see the beauty and the good in their lives. When Kai is struck by the mirror’s pieces, he becomes violent and can no longer see Gerda’s beauty and her love for him, whereas in Frozen, after being struck in the heart with dark magic, Anna is still able to see the good in people, and she still believes that Elsa loves her. Gerda is told that her innocence and purity, rather than an act of true love, are enough to save Kai from the Snow Queen. Gerda then rushes off to the Queen’s castle to find
