The director of the movie, shows an accurate representation of the people. All the people who acted, have the correct appearance using the characters in the film. The black actors, especially their tribal leader, Cinque, produce an appropriate image of him. As he is tall, strong and has a tough character that makes him look like a powerful leader. Which then they would sell them into slavery. The slaves were able to take over the ships thanks to Cinque breaking loose of his chains. The slaves commanded Ruiz and Montes to turn the ship around toward the sun and Africa. They went in a zigzag as Ruiz and Montes would change the ship around at night, when Cinque did not notice. Soon after they landed on U.S. soil and were captured by Americans. They were imprisoned and put on trial for murder. Two abolitionist, Lewis Tappan and Theodore Joadson, hire Roger Baldwin to defend the slaves in court, The slaves win their case in the lower courts, but get appealed and make it to the supreme court. Baldwin gets the help of John Quincy Adams and they win. The judges say they are free not slaves and should be able to return to their home country.
