Listen my children, and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere…(Henry Longfellow, “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”). Whenever you hear the name Paul Revere most people automatically think of his midnight ride and how he warned his fellow rebels of the incoming British and how he rode from town to town yelling “The British are coming! The British are coming!” Which, by the way, he didn’t yell “The British are coming!” he yelled “The Regulars are coming!” British soldiers were commonly referred to as regulars instead of soldiers. Revere was born January 1, 1735 and was the third of twelve children who lived long enough to see adulthood. Being the oldest son, Paul took over his father’s silversmith shop at the age of nineteen after his father’s death. Revere’s father was not born in America, when he came to America his name was Apollos de Revoire. After he established his silversmith shop, he changed his name to the “more American-spelled” Paul Revere; Paul was named after his father. Revere later married Sarah Orne with whom he had eight children with. Sarah died during the birth of their eighth child, he …show more content…
Paul Revere was a major part of the Revolutionary War and helped Americans to gain the freedom that we enjoy today and have enjoyed for hundreds of years. He helped to warn the minutemen of the British and aided in the escape of John Hancock and John Adams. He later died at the age of 83, he outlived all but five of his children.
