The Lonely Commute Analysis

Great Essays
The title of my story is “The Lonely Commute”. The majority of the story is about a high school students lonely commute to school and how a moment of the characters past has reflected on his current attitude. The overall plot of the story goes like this, a teenage boy is woken up by an annoyed parent, because he is refusing to wake up and go to school on his own. He ends up going to school on the school bus only to be confronted by a very mean boy who treats him bad based off what happened in the past. He thinks back to the time which he got slapped by “Allison”. The boy who confronted him then says how he’s such a “loser” and should “disappear forever”. The main character grabs the other boys shirt only to be slapped away, with brute strength. …show more content…
Onto panel 5, we move into the thought sequence panels. I purposely made it like this in order to show how he is thinking back to something that has happened.
Panels 5-8 are all connected in a thought sequence of the main character on panel 8. In panel 5, I have the main character asking his crush out. On the side, there are lockers, I purposely put locker number 494 closest to them, because it is recognized as an unlucky number. There is also a lot of internal dialogue from the people who are watching from behind the window.
On panel 6, I have the girl slap the main character, this is shown in motion lines and a slapping effect. I made sure to use action to action transition here so that the slap is right before and right after the slap, to create a more interesting scene.
On panel 7, I have the main character on the floor, while all the people in the window are laughing at him, this shows the status in which he is in now. I used a long shot to convey the whole of the scene so that the reader can see everything that is going

Dean Trippe used captivating techniques to create a very serious story with a presentation usually intended for children. He composed a story quite chronologically starting at incidents from childhood all the way to adolescents and adult life. The story begins with what seems like a very serious tone. The beginning two frames demonstrate Trippe as a child sitting on a step. In this particular part in the story I believe this is him demonstrating his recollection of the past event in which he was sexually abused.…

Although readers do not yet know where CJ and Nana are going, it is obvious that he does not want to be going there. Up until they load the bus, the pictures are mainly two page spreads.…

The Sanctuary of School The essay I chose to write was over the short article of “The Sanctuary of School” by Lynda Barry. In this story it talks about the author Lynda Barry’s experience with the school from a young age. She talks about growing up in a home with her mom and her dad having money issues, relatives that kept moving in, her brother and her sleeping on the couch, and the constant fighting going on. She explains how she didn’t feel safe at home so she talks about school being a safe haven for her, and how lucky she was that she had Mrs. LeSane and Mr. Gunderson.…

The use of close up and head-shot techniques assist in capturing a direct point of view of both character’s body language and facial expressions. These expressions are manufactured to portray a dismal, intimate moment to pull at the audience 's heart strings.
