Analysis Of The Leander Band

Decent Essays
To truly make the Leander band the best band and a close family we need to have a strong leader group and those who don’t gain the title still need to be strong leaders in any way they can. We all need to be willing to do what it takes to better our band program and not worry about doing extra work but knowing that every minute we put into the band program is for the better. Just like during the video that was shown during leadership preparations, if the leadership team is not strong and we don’t trust each other we won’t be able to achieve our full potential. Also we need to have a good relationship between the band directors and the students much like between the leaders and each other. While we all get along fine I feel like the band program

To be a leader, one must first earn the trust and respect of one’s peers and become someone that they would listen to. As a petite, easily distracted female, I often have trouble becoming a person that others listen to outside of the classroom. Thus, becoming this leader and being elected and inducted as the president of the York Suburban Trojan Theatre Club is my most impressive achievement in leadership. At first, people did not know who I was, so I was able to build a reputation for myself by becoming the props crew lead in all but official title. Still, when backstage, I have a reputation as a leader.…

For the last two years, I have contributed to my Advanced Women’s Show Choir’s success as a performer and as a dance captain. My talent as a dancer and my ability to quickly learn choreography led to my selection as dance captain. This leadership role requires me to be a responsible person, a patient teacher and a supportive team member. Being a part of a nationally top-ranked show choir, I know the requirements of my role, and I was always thrilled to be selected as a dance captain during my junior and senior years. As dance captain, I schedule and lead dance sectionals, helping the girls review the choreography from previous rehearsals.…

It has even influenced the way that other groups function. A great example of our influence is Amplify, the other a cappella group on campus. For a long time amplify was structured like a two-tiered pyramid with their leader on top, and everyone else below. There was no branching or sub-leadership. Last year their Leader graduated, and when nobody stepped the group crumbled.…

Being a senior in showchoir is a challenge! Many of the underclassmen look to you for advice or seek help when they need it. My leadership skills were also pushed last year and this year for “Dancing with the Teachers”, which is a show the showchoir puts on early in the school year. We are split into groups of about 6 or 7 out of the 40 or so members, and then we must select a teacher to be in each of our groups. We, being the seniors, then have to create a mix of songs and a dance to perform in this show.…

Successful organizations all require 2 things: a strong team and strong leaders to direct the team to victory, and the Marching Pioneers is no exception to this rule. With an ensemble as large as the Marching Pioneers, there is no physically possible way 4 top tier leaders can give everyone the attention they need. Section leaders are necessary for the success of our fine organization, and there’s nothing more satisfying than being part of a leadership team that can add to the already growing success of this talented group. Here are just a few reasons why I would like to be in the next generation of saxophone section leaders. To be a section leader is like being given a lump of clay and being told to mold into the Statue of David.…

Partaking in the student council organization has allowed for personal and leadership growth, and is comprised of plentiful downfalls and successes. But I believe that it requires missteps and prosperity to learn and grow as a leader. In terms of strength, my skills in proper and adequate delegation tasks have contributed to the successes of my class. However, delegating and simply telling others what to do is not leadership, it is the act of collaborating with one another to execute an event or achieve the goal. Ultimately, I believe that it is my ability to uplift and empower others as my greatest asset.…

I soon realized this method would not work and my individual, almost selfish competitiveness would need to be replaced with great leadership. My transformation began when a certain member of my section was late and slowly walking to where we rehearse. I stood there with the rest of the trumpets, waiting for him to show up so we could begin. Once he finally arrived, I let out my frustration on him because it didn't seemed like he cared that he was late.…

From middle school to high school, band became a vital part of my life. It was all I knew, it was where I felt comfortable, and this was where I pratically began learning about my leadership skills. However, my curiousity grew when I was introduced to Class Council. I thought that there was no difference, and I naively thought that since I have been a part of a leadership role for about 4 years, everyone knows me, so I thought Class Council could not be so hard. I was terribly wrong.…

I was very intimidated by the seniors teaching me how to march, play my music, and be a excellent band kid. I knew at that moment I was in for a splash, I just had to jump in the pool. Throughout all of band camp I examined every little aspect I could. I noticed the student leaders helping those around them, the firm discipline, and most importantly the close bonds with one another. In that moment I knew that is what I wanted to be, I wanted to be looked at as a leader.…

As captain of managing all equipment for rehearsals, competitions, and attending to all field duties necessary for my high school’s marching band program, I have learned that communication and organization is a pivotal aspect to group success. In my two-year tenure of being captain, I organized whole football fields to be painted every week during the season, transported marching band and color guard equipment which include sabers and instruments, and built a scaffolding. Throughout many competitions, the elasticity of my leadership abilities was tested with multiple time constraints. One time, a truck containing all the bands props had a flat tire and arrived late at night. Not only, did my crew have to move quickly, but they unluckily had…

It was 8 a.m. during summer break and I had just walking into the high school to start my first year of marching band. Millions of thoughts rushed through my head, “What if I forget the music? What if I mess the drill up?”As I walked to the field one of my friends introduced me to someone who would become the greatest mentor during my high school career. Alex Murphy was the lead saxophonist at Kingsway Regional High School.…
