Trucks, buses, SUV’s, mini vans, or smart cars have all played a major role in the topic of transportation. They are get passengers to their requested destination in the fastest way possible. Yet, most people are unaware of the true meaning of vehicles as well as their purpose. They are their own cultural artifact, exhibiting their different qualities to the people who own them. The way they are perceived in commercials helps expose the different qualities to the public eye. No vehicle is the same, creating different experiences for the people who choose to take the ride. Matthew McConaughey’s clothes and the subtle tone of voice he uses indicates that if you drive this car, you will impress people that are metaphorically speaking, “out of your league.” The development of this commercial was to trigger its viewers into a common social flow. The Lincoln commercial illustrates that people who drive the Lincoln MKZ are resilient, robust men with a major sex appeal. In most cases, men will do almost anything to let others, as well as know themselves how masculine they are. Masculinity has always been extremely popular in a mans life, therefore using this appeal was very successful. Lincoln perceives the automobile, not as a means of transportation, but as a lifestyle. Another motor company that uses these appeals is Kia. The Kia Soul commercial was once the most popular and most viewed commercial in the automobile category. They used a group of hamsters in place of people for an appeal to pathos, or the emotion of the viewers. Kia used these hamsters because it is inevitable that hamsters are extremely cute animals. The hamsters then turn on the radio to show the cars, main feature. The hamsters are seen riding around the city, bumping music and feeling free, dressed in clothes trending in that point in time. It can be argued that cars take families to their requested destination both back in the 1900’s and now, but what can’t be argued is that automobiles today are far more depended on. Subaru prides themselves on providing safety and reliability for all passengers. For example, vehicles in this day and age come furnished with TV screens and Bluetooth radio. People are driving more than ever before and to compensate for that, car companies are making their cars more family oriented.
