She speaks about how she was always afraid to fail and seemed to never take risks or ask for help due to her own pride. Rubin explains how failing can sometime lead to unforeseen blessings such as her opportunity to write in various journals and how asking for help from peers and even starting a blogging group with her friends Michael and Marci helped her grow as a writer. The last two points that are mentioned in the chapter are pretty straightforward; Gretchen Rubin is basically attempting to help the reader understand that it is important to be productive in order to be happy, as well as not worrying about everything. What I was able to comprehend, though, was the importance of spending time together with my family. Years from now, I know that I will never forget the times I spent playing board games with my entire family during the holidays, listening to storied my Dad would make up to help entertain me as a child, or the time when my Grandmother tried to learn how to play video games. Even though she had the slightest clue as to what to do, she still made lasting memories that I won’t forget anytime soon. One connection that I was able to make was the fact that keepsakes are a necessary part of daily life. When I was younger, my Mom would sit at the table and work on scrapbooks for my brother and I for hours and hours, wasting her precious time. I never understood the effect this would have on me as an adult until I began to look through the books and reminisce on all of the wonderful times I’ve had with members of my family. As I matured into a young adult, I felt compelled to always take pictures everywhere I go to help capture the moments when I am happy. One final aspect of this book that I enjoyed was the way that she incorporated the feelings of her husband into the book
