In the current age, the job market is filled with cut-throat competition with candidates fighting for an edge over their competitors, it is through an individual holding social and emotional competencies that provide an edge over other candidates. This range of emotional developments are often known as soft skills, examples of which being personality traits, preferences and motivations (Heckman & Kautz, 2012). Through this portfolio I will comprehensively analyse and assess my competencies in regards to; those required to establish a successful presence within my field of future employment and those that hinder, either directly or indirectly, my ability to progress along my chosen career path. In addition to this I will establish goals in the …show more content…
As I present high levels of Extraversion, this demonstrates that I excel within social situations (Selfhout et al., 2010). As Extraversion relates to social flexibility, it can be concluded that I will prosper within a team environment within my occupation, a strong advantage to have for my dream field of corporate finance (McShane, Olekalns & Travaglione, 2013). While I present high levels of Extraversion, Conscientiousness is my lowest field quantitatively. According to a journal published by Paroport, this deficiency indicates a below average motivation, an area that I should improve upon to put my best foot forward career wise. The results of the NeoIpip are fairly consistent with expectations, with the high levels of Extraversion and Openness to Experience congruent with personality descriptions provided by my peers. I personally consider myself to be have moderate to high levels of Agreeableness, so the results did somewhat contradict my …show more content…
Both goals relate to progress within specific dimensions of the FFM. Through fulfilment of these goals I aim to personally expand on my moderate levels of Openness to Experience and Conscientiousness. This is a result of research of corporate finance positions having a heavy requirement for attention to detail and industry relations, each relating to the dimensions respectively ("Career Overview: Corporate Finance - Wetfeet.com", 2016). I will achieve progress in Openness through venturing outside my comfort zone through job fairs and optional university events relating to my specific field. This will be measured through my involvement within the campus and the number of relations within the corporate field I have achieved by the end of the first year. I will further my development in Conscientiousness through involvement with advanced study programs and general efforts within my course, with my grade point average and established involvement being recorded on a bi-monthly basis. By the end of the year I hope to see an increase of 20 points per dimension on the NeoIpip test, which I will submit on a bi-yearly basis. This means I aim to see a minimum of 56 points and 78 points on my Conscientiousness and Openness to Experience

Understanding these goals will allow myself to focus on each part separately, overall increasing my success in each of these settings. Companies must have good relationships and cohesiveness both inside and outside, whether it is customers or other clients you work with on a routine basis. Agreeableness as mentioned earlier in my essay, correlates with what Skinner said, is the next trait that follows extraversion. Agreeableness is great in the work environment, but can also be a negative because if you agree and settle for everything, how much business if actually going to be done? Yes, it is a good thing to agree with people, but being balanced in this category produces the most efficient outcome for the business. Conscientiousness is a trait that measures a person 's personality by the amount of work they put into the company and the amount of time…
