The pair discussed several graphic methods of successfully completing the task through an online website where they spoke regularly. Hours prior to committing the murders, the couple engaged in a viewing of the 1994 film entitled Natural Born Killers. The source of media later proved to be a major inspiration to the pair when Steinke compared his relationship with the younger girl to Mickey and Mallory 's, who were two psychopathic serial murderers and lovers portrayed in the movie. Steinke then consumed a six pack of beer, along with 'Vampire ' wine, and a gram of cocaine, before driving over to the Richardson residence. Once there, he slaughtered Jasmine 's family with a knife while the girl stood by. Steinke immediately fled the scene, leaving Jasmine to collect a few of her items and her mother 's bank card. However, Steinke 's physical involvement with the murders made it difficult for Richardson to be charged with first degree murder, so the jury was given three options; charge her with first degree murder, second degree murder, or deem her innocent. After careful consideration, the jury decided her to be guilty of all three counts of first degree murder.
The trial lasted for a month, and after careful examination of both Jasmine 's relationship with Jeremy and all tangible evidence, she was sentenced to serve 10 years imprisonment in a juvenile facility for her involvement in the conspiracy of the homicides.
