After reading the short story The Elevator, I think that the main character Martin faced many conflicts throughout the story. The first conflict that he is faced with is the fact that he dislikes elevators. The next day when Martin was going to the first floor a fat lady got on at the 8th floor and instead of staring at the door stared at him. When he gets home and goes to the elevator the fat lady comes in again, but instead of going with her he starts to run down the stairs and trips breaking his ankle. His dad then takes him to the hospital and Martin gets crutches and has to stay at the apartment for a week. When Martin and his dad come back they are riding the elevator up when his dad needs to get off to visit somebody. After the dad gets on the fat lady enters the elevator and she says “Hello Martin”. That is where the story ended but it will propel him into a brand new ending I will be creating.
My ending for the story is when she presses stop the door opens and she asks “Would you like to get out?” Martin doesn’t and they go up to his floor where his dad congratulates him on overcoming his fear of the elevator and explains that he and the fat lady worked together to try and overcome Martin 's fear of the elevator and it works.
