The Educational, Professional and personal Road of Danielle Jackson

Education has always been somewhat of a challenge for me. I recall at an early age struggling to keep up with the other children in the class in fact I was held back a year. I recall being teased by the other children in my class for having to go to what was called the special education class where I was helped with reading and math. They discovered I had a condition called dyslexia. Work was challenging; however, becoming aware of my condition I was able to better understand my difficulties and not be so hard on myself. Up until middle school I managed. My ninth grade year, I discovered I was pregnant. I continued with school in an alternative program and stayed there

I worked in the arcade and gift shops for two years before I decided I needed to bring in more money. At this point I applied at the Scripps Memorial Hospital cafeteria. My mother who worked as a nurse there overheard the Cafeteria manager talking about hiring. Soon after, I was working in the kitchen full-time and making more money hence my small goal accomplished. The children were growing, the holidays were coming, and they needed more things. I took a 2nd job at the commissary as a cashier. This was a seasonal job, but it got us through the holidays. I have to admit that was one of our best Christmas’s our family had. About two years of working at the hospital, I left there for personal reasons and became a cashier at Wal-Mart. I stayed there for about two years. Now a mother of three sons, I again needed a larger income. At this point I applied for a position as a receptionist at Health Net Federal Services. The position as a receptionist paid more, the hours were consistent, and I was off weekends. This gave me more time with my family and it was great because I was now a mother of four sons. Just as all of my other positions I was there for a little over two years; however, this times my position was eliminated. I was let go with three months’ severance. I stayed home for a couple of months. This time around it seemed a little harder to get a job anywhere. Running out of time and money a friend of mine told me that they needed help in the Escrow office she worked and so one Monday I got up and went to work with her and I kept going all week by Friday I was on Payroll. I was making more money than I had made from any job I had in the past. Everything was going great I was not thinking about school in my mind everything was perfect. Until the market crashed and again I was laid off. I was back at home with nothing to do and unable to get a job anywhere I decided to go back to school. I graduated high school at
